We have now reached the second season of the NBA and its time to see who will reign on the hardwood for the summer. Will Golden State continue their dominance and finish their 73-9 season with a championship win? Can the San Antonio Spurs prove that they are the defiers of Father Time? Will Lebron James finally win one for the ‘Land and bring his hometown a championship? All these questions will be answered but first we must look at the opening rounds of the playoffs and decide who will make it to the semifinals. Here is my official 1st round review of the 2016 NBA Playoffs.
First Game: April 16 at 3:30p.m.
Analysis: This series is an absolute wash. Sure I could see Houston stealing a game, but the Warriors are going to absolutely steamroll them. No question.
Prediction: Warriors in 4.
First Game: April 17 at 8p.m.
Analysis: San Antonio should and will win this series, but I could see Memphis stealing this series with their defense. Now a lot of people are going to discount the Spurs because of their age, but they fall into the same old schtick that other teams do and underestimate the Spurs. That underestimation has gotten them five championships against top-level teams. Memphis isn’t going to do that but they will make this an incredible series.
Prediction: San Antonio in 6.
First Game: April 16 at 9:30p.m.
Analysis: This is an interesting series because while it is easy to say that OKC will win this series, Dallas could make it go past 5 games. I see Russell Westbrook taking over this series, but once he is halted, Kevin Durant hits a clinching shot to win it all.
Prediction: OKC in 5.
First Game: April 17 at 10:30p.m.
Analysis: This is a series that I truly can’t pick a winner. Both of these teams are extremely talented when it comes to guard play and have really good three-point shooting. I think Damian Lillard will end up being the X-Factor in this series and will cause them to win. But it won’t be a short series.
Prediction: Portland in 7.
First Game: April 17 at 3:30p.m.
Analysis: This is going to be a tough series. Like extremely tough. Now Cleveland is going to beat Detroit, but Detroit is not a team to overlook. If Detroit was playing any other team in the eastern playoffs, you could pencil them in to win the series. But with a healthy Kyrie Irving, a Kevin Love who has realized his role and a Lebron James that looks pissed off to win a championship, expect the Cavs to win this series.
Prediction: Cavs in 4.
First Game: April 16 at 12:30p.m.
Analysis: Toronto should have no real issues against the Pacers. Shouldn’t. Thats not counting if Paul George doesn’t go off. Sure Kyle Lowry and Demar Derozan can go off for 30 a piece and beat them, but George could take over in a way that neither of them would expect. I see this series going to the bitter end and it will be a toss-up as to who wins.
Prediction: Toronto in 7.
First Game: April 17 at 5:30p.m.
Analysis: While Charlotte is an extremely tough team to get by, especially with Jeremy Lin and Kemba Walker on the roster, Charlotte has the youth and recklessness to win. But Miami knows that they are on the road to possibly play spoiler to Cleveland making the NBA Finals and are looking to make their first victim the Charlotte Hornets.
Prediction: Miami in 6.
First game: April 16 at 7:00p.m.
Analysis: This is a very interesting series. Atlanta will cause Boston issues in the post-up play, but I think the combo of Marcus Smart and Isiah Thomas will be too much for the Hawks to win the series. They will make it competitive and could make it a 7 game series, but I don’t see it going that far.
Prediction: Celtics in 6
So these are my picks for the 1st round of the playoffs and I personally can’t wait to see it all go down. What are your predictions? Like and leave a comment down below.
